East Africa Exchange (EAX) is a commodity exchange

About Us

The East Africa Exchange (EAX) is a regional commodity exchange established to link smallholder farmers to agricultural and financial markets, secure competitive prices for products, and facilitate access to financing opportunities. EAX is registered throughout East Africa Community Partner countries. Our current and future operations consist of  spot, forwards, auction and futures trading, as well as warehouse operations.

EAX is a subsidiary of Africa Exchange Holdings, Ltd. (AFEX), comprised of Heirs Holdings, Berggruen Holdings, and 50 Ventures, and is financially supported through private investment from AFEX and Ngali Holdings, a local investment company in Rwanda. AFEX’s vision is to create lasting institutions that will capitalize on Africa’s agricultural potential, support African farmers, achieve food security, provide energy security and improve Africa’s overall global trade and capital market competitiveness. AFEX’s goals are to transform agriculture by creating more bargaining power for smallholders, including access to information, storage, and finance; increase Africa’s global trade competitiveness by building economies of scale; and deepen Africa’s capital markets by creating greater liquidity.

EAX offers the following services: Warehouse services (cleaning, drying, fumigation, grading, re-bagging), commodity trading, warehouse receipt Financing, clearing and settlement, risk management and Compliance. Further, EAX currently offers trading of Auction and Reverse Auction contracts, for maize and beans. Future offerings at EAX will include spot, forward, and futures trading for coffee, tea, and rice.
