EAX – RWANDA: Powered by Nasdaq

Regulated by Rwanda Capital Market Authority, EAX has its headquarters in Kigali Rwanda and offers full services of clearing and settlement, trading using Nasdaq platform and market information.  EAX is a membership based organization. It has registered members comprising of commodity buyers & sellers; commercial banks and commodity brokers. Key Off-takers include; ETG, PRODEV/MINIMEX, RGCC, EAX in Rwanda has maize, beans and soya farmer cooperatives  representing around 80,000 farmers  mainly seeking secured storage, quality improvements to their harvest, inventory financing and secured markets.

All members representatives are trained in-house or through collaborations with other EAX partners on EAX services, Post-harvest management, commodity prices, warehouse receipts trading, warehouse receipts financing, trade settlement, Nasdaq usage, trading through EAX brokers. EAX has also certified commodity brokers to support traders on price advice, transport arrangement and represent them in trading

Key Commercial Banks such as ECOBANK, Urwego Opportunity Bank, KCB, Equity Bank and GT bank that have national and regional coverage signed membership with EAX to provide credit to farmers by accepting their crops as sole collateral.

EAX Model

  1. Sellers who are EAX certified registered members bring product to EAX operated warehouse.
  2. Collateral manager draws samples,grades and weighs,and issues a certificate or electronic warehouse receipt.
  3. At the EAX trading floor, using EAX NASDAQ trading platform, Sellers make offers,or instructs a broker to make sell orders; and Buyers make bids,or instructs a broker to make buy orders
  4. At the EAX back office, EAX trading teams ensure buyers move funds into EAX settlement account with a clearing bank prior the trade.
  5. Deal price is recorded and announced daily to public.
  6. Clearing and settlement of Exchange contract goes into effect.
  7. Arbitration system in place.
