Uganda East Africa Exchange (UEAX) is the national-level subsidiary linked to the greater EAX.  Through the establishment of the commodity exchange and its supporting infrastructure, UEAX aims to promote the commercialization of the Uganda Agricultural sector and improve market access to Uganda smallholder farmers, linking them to markets across the East Africa Community Country regions.

Current Operations

EAX is in advanced discussion with Uganda Grains Council, Uganda Warehouse Receipts Council and Uganda Commodity Exchange to operate certified warehouses in Uganda, as well as Warehouse receipts system and financing of receipts. EAX is also collaborating with the Uganda Commodity Exchange to trade warehouse receipts on spot contracts via EAX NASDAQ Trading platform.

Market Development Activities

EAX and Uganda Grain Stakeholders meeting in March 2014 in Kampala. The event brought together grain traders and buyers, warehouse operators and other agricultural and financial industry stakeholders.

Equity Bank and KCB Bank Uganda collaborates to offer warehouse receipts financing to Uganda grain and cereal farmers. The Banks will finance up to 70% of the market value of farmers grains deposited in certified warehouses in Uganda.
